Wonders of the Solar System

About the show

Prepare to immerse yourself in an alien world as if you were standing there yourself… This series reveals the true and awesome beauty of our solar system.

These wonders feature giant ice fountains rising over 100km high; an ocean hidden beneath a frozen crust of ice; storms three times the size of Earth coloured blood red by a vortex of dust and gases; immense volcanoes that would put Mount Everest in the shade.

We travel from the Sun to the far-out reaches of Neptune. Wonders of the Solar System has at its heart the latest scientific knowledge beamed back from the fleet of probes, rovers and telescopes currently in space. The series uses the very latest breathtaking images sent directly from space.

Ground breaking CGI transforms the static into the dramatic. This imagery will be the launch pad for a stunning journey to the planets and moons beyond our world, finding the biggest, most bizarre and most powerful natural phenomena.

Alongside these startlingly authentic images, some of the most spectacular extreme locations on Earth reveal wonders never thought possible.

Over five episodes, the series explores how these previously unseen phenomena have dramatically expanded our horizons, revealing more about the planets, their moons and how they came to be the way they are.

The series also looks at the big picture – how the forces of nature carved out beauty and order from the chaos of space. It also looks at how our home planet doesn’t sit in magnificent isolation but is intimately connected with the rest of the Solar System.

We learn how these connections have created the haven we call Earth.

hi brian, i reckon the imprints of those fossils came from after the depletion of water of the global deluge in Genesis 6:9. in the year 2370 BC when marine life got trapped as the water subsided

You have told us that after all the stars have gone thro' the white dwarf stage that, in trillions of years, if we don't do something about it, the photons will stop photing. and Newton will have his beloved entropy. - the end. I have some problems with some of this. The "Big Bang" is supposed to start with a singularity. Question one - where did it come from? Question two - a singularity should explode uniformly, unless even the prime singularity is made of something. The Cosmos shouldn't be made up so randomly. There's something to be said for phlogiston after all. rgds

Just been watching programme on Sunday evenings. Absolutely marvellous. Gave me a new sense of the universe and how fortunate we are to be given this gift of experiencing it. When he said that in trillions of years there will be nothing left at all it made me feel that this was a great big stage for us and that on the last star we would be saying (I know we won't be there) "would the last star to leave turn out the lights". Not very good at expressing myself but it made me feel very different about our world, our experiences, our uniqueness and it gave me a feeling of joy in some way, that I was one of the lucky ones to experience this.

I've heard about this and been looking forward to seeing it. Have marked my diary! It'd be great if you had a 'remind me' button that would send you an email the day before a show was on so you wouldn't miss it. Or an automatic link to the Foxtel guide to series link.
